I think this was one of my favourite weddings to flower of 2025. The colours where rich and wintery with a real essence of deep and earthy naturalness to them.

One of the nicest things about this wedding was the fact that I used 90% of my own homegrown florals also. There is something really special about that!

Ella and Alex tied the knot at The Green, Cornwall who where the most fabulous people to work with. My first time at the venue and they where such a friendly, accommodating bunch. They had lots of beautiful different areas for the wedding party to be without getting soggy on the day. Plus, the Christmas trees! oh my goodness!

Despite the weather they had to deal with on the day (standard Cornwall!) their photos came out beautifully by David Fielding Photography.

They created a stunning space for them, with real cosy vibes and a stunning spread by Ausel Cakes & Catering.

Jennifer wanted a soft pink boho style flower crown and bouquet. Her flower crown had beautiful rustic chiffon ribbon to tie at the back, giving a really soft feel to her whole look.

I am so delighted they asked me to flower their big day. I think Jennifer pulls it all off beautifully!

What Jennifer said -

"I chose to go with Roots and Wild for my wedding florals after seeing the beautiful dried flower crowns on the website. I had always wanted to wear a real flower crown, but never got the occasion to do so! Ruth made a bespoke, gorgeous flower crown for me, alongside a bridal bouquet and buttonhole for my partner. They were all lovely! Ruth was also very communicative throughout the entire process - which was greatly appreciated. I am so glad that I decided to go with dried florals. My wedding really had a nice, bohemian aesthetic because of them. Thank you, Ruth!"

As the sun broke through the clouds, I felt the buzz of excitement for another day at the Newquay market run by Cornwall Shop Small. The atmosphere is always electric, filled with laughter, friendly chatter, and the lively sounds of local music. T

A Warm Welcome to Newquay

Newquay is not just a seaside town; it’s a lively hub bursting with creativity and community spirit. Known for its breath taking beaches, the area attracts both locals and tourists. The markets reflect this vibrancy, drawing together artisans, small traders, and visitors all celebrating local talent.

I was particularly moved by the warm interactions I had throughout the day. Each conversation was more than just a transaction; it was about sharing our stories, passions, and love for handcrafted creations. For example, one visitor shared how my pressed flower pieces reminded her of her grandmother’s garden, sparking a heart warming dialogue about family and memories.

The Joy of Connecting with Fellow Traders

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my market experience was meeting fellow traders passionate about their crafts. Each stall was a treasure trove of uniquely crafted goods, ranging from handmade jewellery to locally-sourced food products.

The camaraderie among traders was heartening. We exchanged tips on managing our stalls, shared experiences, and celebrated each other’s successes. While we may compete in a market sense, we embraced a supportive community that values creativity and collaboration.

Sunshine and Smiles

This summer brought predominantly sunny days to the markets, with only a few light rain showers. The weather was a crucial element in creating a joyful atmosphere, encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors. On busy days, I noticed foot traffic swelling by up to 60% compared to cooler, drizzly weeks.

Families, friends, and couples strolled through the market, enjoying the warmth and connection that filled the air. The blend of sunshine and community spirit made for a delightful experience that resonated with everyone present.

Showcasing My Pressed Flower Meadows

A major highlight at my stall was my collection of pressed flower meadows housed in soldered frames. These pieces not only serve as art but celebrate the beauty of nature, capturing the essence of flowers in a unique, lasting format.

I was thrilled to see how much people appreciated these creations. Each pressed flower tells a unique story, and many visitors were eager to learn about the inspiration behind them. The intricate details and vivid colors sparked conversations about gardening and the outdoors.

The Importance of Supporting Local

One key takeaway from my time at the Newquay markets is the profound importance of supporting local artisans and businesses. Each purchase at the market is not just a transaction; it’s an investment in the dreams and hard work of individuals who pour their hearts into their crafts.

According to a recent study, supporting local businesses can lead to up to three times more money circulating within the community than shopping at big-box shops. This creates a healthy ecosystem that fosters creativity and sustainability, allowing our communities to thrive.

Reflections on Community Spirit

As I reflect on my time at the markets, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the sense of community that surrounded me. The smiles, conversations, and collective appreciation for creativity transformed each market day into a memorable experience.

I am thankful to everyone who visited my stall, contributed to conversations, and embraced the creativity we all shared. Each interaction added warmth to the day, reminding me of the power of connection and the joy of engaging with our passions.

Looking Ahead

As summer draws to a close, I eagerly anticipate the future of the Newquay markets. The enthusiasm I experienced this season has fueled my creativity, and I am excited to return with new designs and ideas.

The vibrant atmosphere of Newquay is contagious. I look forward to witnessing how it evolves with each market, reminding me of the beauty of community and the joy of sharing our passions.
